The Future of Travelling

Page Magazine asked me to create an illustrative contribution to the question how the Corona pandemic could change the way we travel in the future.

Destinations of long-distance journeys become a place of longing not only because of their appearance, but also because of the feeling that they are far away from home and that many things are different – such as language or writing in public space.

My illustrations show two series of places (from far away to nearer): Mountains (left side) and idyllic sceneries by the water (right side). In the abstracted form of the illustration their differences among each other become blurred. Perhaps the juxtaposition of the landscapes changes the view of sites in our local areas in such a way that one can discover something new and exciting there. When a place is communicated to me as beautiful or interesting, whether through friends, social media or even art, I look at it from a different perspective in the first place.
